Nice work if you can get it

Well, the "Do Nothing" Congress is on vacation for the next 5 weeks. They will be back in September; their legislative calendar says for eight days. In October, they are expected to legislate for five days. So, this is what we pay our legislators $174,000 per year for . . .absolutely the least amount of legislation done since the "Do Nothing" Congress of Harry Truman's day. Not to mention the best health care we taxpayers can buy for them.

Of course, John Boehner and Mitch McConnell wanted this calendar so that the Tea Party, which believes in small, limited government, would be able to obstruct governing for the entire congress. What they left on the table was legislation for jobs--two pieces--one for infrastructure, and one for the addition of public workers, you know, teachers, police officers, firemen, etc. They also left legislation for farmers to help with the drought, immigration legislation, etc. BUT, they did work on repealing the President's Affordable Care Act thirty-three times!

We must work together, all Americans, for the sake of the future of this country, to defeat this "Do Nothing" Congress. Oh yes, by the way, the most productive Congress ever? That would be the 111th Congress, led by Nancy Pelosi, who shepherded more than 900 pieces of legislation through Congress (not all passed), but the Affordable Care Act, the Dodd-Frank bill passed, along with numerous others. This President needs our help to improve the lives of all Americans through policy and legislation. Electing Democrats who will work with him in that regard is critical.

That's what we pay our representatives to do in Congress. To work hard for the American people, liberal, conservative and independent. All of us.
