You might be surprised who is allied with this legislation to end discrimination against gays in the workworkplace. Check out this article in the Huffington Post. | |||
Dear Democratic Party of DuPage,
There's a battle taking shape in the U.S. Senate right now over workplace discrimination – and together, we have a chance to make history.
Illinois's senators – Dick Durbin and Mark Kirk – are preparing to vote on the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), a bill we've been pushing for years that would finally protect all LGBT Americans on the job. This would be the first Senate vote on ENDA in 17 years – and we need to win.
Today, hundreds of HRC supporters will fill the halls of Congress for the ENDA Lobby Day, demanding that LGBT employees be protected from employment discrimination.
While they stream into the Capitol, can you help flood your senators' phone lines by calling and making the case for ENDA? It's really simple, and it only takes a minute – the directions are below.
Here's where your senators stand, along with their office phone numbers:
And here's what you should say once you reach a staffer in your first senator's office:
Hi, my name is ________, and I live in ________. I'm calling as a supporter of the Human Rights Campaign to thank the senator for supporting the Employment Non-Discrimination Act. Thank you.
Once you say goodbye, make sure to call your second senator at the number above, and then click here to tell us about your calls. We want to keep count of the calls you make to know how big an impact HRC supporters like you are having in the fight for ENDA.
Across the board, the majority of Americans believe that employment decisions should be based on a person’s qualifications and work ethic. And it goes inherently against our American values to fire someone based solely upon who they are.
Luckily, supermajorities of Republicans and Democrats agree that everyone should be able to provide for themselves and their families. Almost 70% of Republicans support a federal law protecting LGBT people from job discrimination, and many Fortune 500 companies do too.
Together, between our in-person Lobby Day participants and dedicated supporters like you who are making calls, we'll make the Senate see that now is the time to end workplace discrimination.
Thanks for making the call.
Sincerely,
Chad Griffin President
